I'm always delighted to find a new Zoe Saadia book for my reviewing pleasure. Imagine, a writer blazing trails in historical fiction and historical fantasy. Wonder at the fact that Zoe will take you places you've never been before, make them real, make them familiar, make them places you want to revisit again and again. Heart of the Battle is Book #3 in her Aztec Chronicles series. I hope there will be more to come. Writers are rare who have the unique gift of being able to move you, mind and soul, into another realm and make that realm come alive. Zoe Saadia has this gift. I believe you can read this book without having read its precursors, but once you've begun this journey, you'll want to read the firs two. Novels set in the Aztec civilization are few, and good ones, fewer. I highly recommend the entire Aztec Chronicles series, then file them under your "Books I wish would never end" shelf. Once you've met Necalli and Miztli, and the mysterious scar-faced warrior, you'll be hooked. This book caps a coming of age saga suitable for You Adult through Adult readers. A great read for those who enjoy Aztec historical fiction. I do recommend to check out Author Zoe Saadia's - The Aztec Chronicles.
Book 3 in an engaging historical fiction series. Set in Aztec times with characters experiencing many of the same issues faced by friends in modern times. A well-written and spellbinding read.
Society has always had rules whether written or unwritten and contrary to the common saying, all is NOT fair in love and war. When the head advisor for one of the Mexica Aztec altepetls defied the customary rules of war the results were disastrous for him and his altepetl. Fortunately for our young hero, his lack of observing societal norms in matters of the heart, while definitely creating trouble, is far less disastrous. In this her third book of the Aztec Chronicles, Ms Saadia tells a spellbinding story set in the pre Columbian era of what is now Mexico City. If you are a fan of historical fiction, this is a “must read” book for you.
This is one of the most intriguing books I have read. The characters with their different societies, sub societies, and classes right down to the more common citizens, all with different training, experiences and expectations blended with the descriptive personalities and traits of each member that make up the group as a whole makes for some great meshing of the differences between themselves that range anywhere from anger, hilarity to even deadliness are so well woven with the storyline and sub storylines. I felt that I could really relate with the different characters at different times. And all this intertwined with the historical facts, culture and some fictional possibilities make for one awesome book. Again, the author has knocked it out of the ball park. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone of any age. Makes a great stand alone book or another great saga for the series.
Here is another book treasure written by Zoe.
The book takes you through the difficulties that any group of friends encounter. The rivalries, jealousy, and hopefully the healing of egos. In this book each of the characters struggles and yet grows in self awareness and confidence.
This series takes place in a relatively short period of time but full of mystery and action. The main people are caught in an actual war as they try to deal with their personal battles.
It must also be noted that each comes to greater realization of their own inner beings at this time.
Each becomes closer to a full mature Aztec.
You must read this Book #3 and the entire series to feel the true story line.
